Beware of competition scams, warns OMO

Unilever brands run sms competitions from time to time but they are fully branded and recognisable as such

A fraudulent scam whereby consumers receive an sms message informing them they have been awarded large sums of money in a promotion by Unilever’s OMO brand, is a scam.

Unilever will never request consumers to deposit money after winning a competition, the company said in a statement issued on Thursday.

In case of any sms contest run by Unilever, the company will also not require a winner to send banking details via sms. All winners will be contacted by Unilever representatives individually.

“If requested, we recommend you do not disclose personal or financial details to anyone you do not know.”
