Two new members join CAER Committee

The two will take care of any concerns residents in their areas may have regarding activities in the Modderfontein industrial complex

THE retirement of two members of Modderfontein Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) Committee has led to the appointment of two new members to replace them.

André Carr of Lakeside Village in Modderfontein and Elizabeth Chambers, representing Linbro Park, attended their last official meeting in November last year. Both had served many years on the committee.

They have been replaced by Margie Pretorius (Lakeside) and Jenny Rose (Linbro) who will now take care of any concerns residents in their areas may have regarding activities in the Modderfontein industrial complex.

The establishment of the Modderfontein CAER Committee was a direct result of AECI’s subscribing to the Responsible Care Initiative which was first launched in Canada in 1985. It was introduced in South Africa by the Chemical and Allied Industries Association early in 1995.

The principles embodied in the Responsible Care philosophy include: a responsiveness to public concerns, commitment to demonstrate continuous improvement and an openness to external scrutiny.

The spirit of the CAER committee is based on mutual good faith between the Modderfontein industrial complex and the communities surrounding them. This is key to its continued success.
