High school learners engage in deadly game

'If I was driving faster, I would have noticed them too late'

A very dangerous and life-threatening game has reared its head among high school learners.

A Birchleigh resident contacted Express about it after spotting learners playing “chicken” by lying in the road.

Juan du Toit said he was on his way from work when he saw the Hoƫrskool Birchleigh learners, still in their school uniforms, lying on Mooifontein Road.

“If I was driving faster, I would have noticed them too late and could have put their lives, mine and that of other motorists, in danger,” he said.

When Express approached the school for comment, a spokesman said they tried their best to teach learners discipline but it was out of their hands what learners did outside school hours and when not on school grounds.
