Mshishi helps former team
Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star, Themba "Mshishi" Zwane, donated 60 brand new soccer balls to Tembisa Santos FC.
The donation was made at the clubhouse in Khalambazo Section, Tembisa, on Sunday.
Zwane joined Santos FC at the age of 12 and rose up through the ranks until he was snatched up by Vardos FC. He eventually joined the star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns two years ago.
Addressing parents during the function, the team’s head coach and one of its directors, Mr Mandla Cebekhulu, said he is happy that one of his former players is helping up-and-coming youngsters in Tembisa.
“I coached him when he was still playing for the U/14 side. Even at that age, he was a disciplined and dedicated youngster. He served the team with distinction and to show that the team is still in his heart, he is donating balls to us. We really appreciate his contribution,” he said.
Mr Cebekhulu added that they still need more balls, as they have more than 140 players.
“We have the U/13, U/14, U/17 and the reserve team. Each teams consists of at least 22 players. They all need to have their own balls during training sessions,” he said.
Mr Cebekhulu pleaded with parents to monitor their child’s school work at home.
“Here we work on their physical and mental growth. As parents, you have the responsibility of making sure they read their books before they go to bed every night,” he said.
He also pleaded with parents to continue teaching children to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
“As a team, we are with them for a short time. We are pleading with you to join hands and make sure our youngsters become successful future adults in all spheres of life,” he said.
