A R6 million upgrade is expected to be done on Bergrivier Drive in Birch Acres.
According to DA PR councillor for wards 12 and 13, Allan Sauls, the first phase of the repairs should be completed by the first half of this year.
“This comes after many communities being extremely concerned with the current state of this long stretch of road, which has fallen into a state of disrepair due to the many years of various forms of vehicles, including heavy trucks, using the road,” Sauls said.
Bergrivier Drive, which is considered a Class 3 road, is scheduled for rehabilitation over the next three years, with the first phase of rehabilitation to be implemented during this financial year.
“The first phase will concentrate on the worst affected sections at a cost of R6 million. Contractors have already been appointed and the first phase would be completed mid-2015.”
Because Bergrivier is considered a Class 3 road, it means all types of vehicles are allowed to use it.
