THE World Primate Sanctuary in Esther Park, which takes care of more than 60 monkeys, creating a safe haven for them, are in need of donations.

Wayne McLeod, founder and primatologist, creates a happy and healthy environment for abused or neglected monkeys to interact with their own species.

McLeod says: “Monkeys are brought to the sanctuary for many reasons. Some are rescued and some are donated by people who did not realise how much specialised care these monkeys need. That is where the sanctuary come in, to provide a safe haven for them and to be taken care of the right way.”

Any donations such as tinned foods, baby foods, fruits, veggies, polar fleece material for bedding, old cooler boxes for sleeping, plastic crates, green paint, baskets and portable bird cages or money will help the sanctuary to carry on providing a healthy environment for these monkeys.

They specialise in exotic monkeys such as marmoset monkeys, squirrel monkeys, tamarin monkeys and capuchins. They have numerous cages as well as a paraplegic cage where rescued monkeys recover. The team also acts on calls to rescue monkeys or provide a help line service.

This non-profitable organisation’s goal is to improve the monkeys’ cages and to open more dedicated care centres nationwide.

For any donations or more information on how to get more involved, call McLeod on 084-597-4044.
