Teams invited to enter Cansa relay

There will be activities all the time, food and refreshments will be on sale as well as hot drinks to keep you warm

A CANSA relay will take place at St Dominic’s School in Boksburg on March 20 and 21 and teams are encouraged to enter. The whole idea of having a cancer relay is to create awareness of cancer and a time to remember the ones we have lost and a time to celebrate loved ones who have survived cancer, said Peter Ackerman, manager of Kempton Park Run Walk for Life.

All proceeds go to Cansa research in fighting this disease and awareness of early screening.

It will start at 6pm and finish at 6am. You will not be walking the whole 12 hours. Each person in your team will get a turn.

The relay will start with an opening lap. Last year they had a pipe band. This will be followed with all the survivors walking a lap.

“Everyone will then join. We will have our Run Walk for Life banner up and we will all walk around the track.

“Luminaria bags will be displayed around the track with a photo and a person’s name on it. The whole track will be lit up with the bags and every time you walk a lap around the track, you will see your loved one you have lost or who is still fighting the disease, Ackerman said.

There will be activities all the time, food and refreshments will be on sale as well as hot drinks to keep you warm.

The cost is R100 a person (13 years and up), 6-12 years R50 and under six years and survivors are free.
