Groups protest outside court against rhino poaching

The hearing of the two alleged rhino poachers arrested at OR Tambo has been postponed

PROTESTORS gathered outside Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last week when two alleged rhino poachers again appeared.Yahn Minh Nyugen and Xuan Luc Nyugen, both Vietnamese, were caught in October 2014 at OR Tambo International Airport, carrying 41.8kg of rhino horn valued over R4.5 million. They were entering the country from Maputo.

The case was postponed to March 4 due to the prosecutor being ill.

Members of Act now SA (ANSA) and Outraged SA Citizens against Poaching gathered outside the court. They said they needed more volunteers to protest against poaching in South Africa as well as trainers to educate communities regarding awareness.

“We need to unite as a community and stand together to scare away these poachers who are taking away our heritage,” said the director of ANSA, Chamu Muvheyo.
