Illegal dumping in Bonaero Park under control thanks to AfriForum
Blocked storm water and drainage pipes must also urgently receive attention from the municipality
BONAERO Park residents can finally take a breath of fresh air (literally) as an illegal dumping issue has finally been solved.
Thanks to intervention efforts made by the Kempton Park branch of AfriForum, the illegal refuse dumping problem on the corner of Great North and Elgin Road is under control again and the area is being kept clean by the metro and being patrolled by the metro police.
Mariska Batt, media relations officer of AfriForum, said illegal refuse dumping had been a constant headache for the citizens of Ekurhuleni since the formation of AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch.
“This branch has undertaken to address, among other things, illegal refuse spilling, poor management of the dumping grounds, sewage problems as well as problems with blocked water pipes in Ekurhuleni.”
According to Jay van Zyl, head of the environmental affairs portfolio of the Kempton Park branch, AfriForum placed the municipality on terms by directing an official request to it in which the duties of the municipality were set out.
“AfriForum is grateful for the support that we receive from the public, our local council members, the metro police as well as the ward committees. Thanks for the cooperation of everyone involved. There is already an improvement in the infrastructure of Bonaero Park. It is once again proof that cooperation is the key factor with regards to the improvement of the community as well as South Africa,” added Van Zyl.
Van Zyl also said blocked storm water and drainage pipes must also urgently receive attention from the municipality, seeing as it has a huge influence on the condition of roads.
