ONLY four members of the 10-member mayoral committee kept their positions as the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, reshuffled his mayoral committee.
Three of them were given new portfolios while another stayed in his previous portfolio.
The announcement was made at the monthly council meeting in Germiston on Thursday.“One of the key elements of the State of the City Address on Wednesday was accelerating service delivery towards the end of the term for the current term of local government office in 2016.

“We gave a full report of how we have done since we took office in May 2011. However, in an effort to optimise service delivery, we must continuously assess our performance so that the necessary interventions can be made. Every healthy organisation must reflect on its performance on a regular basis to determine if the machinery remains relevant to the course,” Gungubele explained.
“While we are happy with the progress made thus far, we believe that with some reconfiguration we can do more.”
After extensive consultations within the ruling party, the ANC, we have taken a collective decision to reconfigure the mayoral committee, the mayor elaborated.
Councillors not re-elected on the committee were Vuyelwa Mabena (environmental management), Phelisa Nkunjana (corporate and shared services), Bennet Nikani (planning and economic development), Makhusazana Maluleke (health and social development), Mthuthuzeli Siboza (community safety) and Zeni Tshongweni (sport, recreation, arts and culture).
The new mayoral committee is as follows:
Finance: Moses Makwakwa (stays with finance)
Health: Makhosazana Mabaso
Water and energy: Doctor Xhakaza
Community safety: Vivian Chauke
City planning and economic development: Thumbu Mahlangu (formerly roads and transport)
Human settlement: Aubrey Nxumalo (formerly water and energy)
Corporate and shared services: Queen Duba (formerly human settlement)
Roads and transport: Petros Muhlari
Environment: Ndosi Shongwe
Sports, heritage, recreation, arts and culture: Dorah Mlambo
Councilllors who have been re-deployed by the ANC to other structures in council are Mthuthuzeli Siboza (community safety), Zeni Tshongweni (sport), Tilly Mabena (environment), Phelisa Nkunjana (corporate and shared services) and Bennet Nikani (economic development).
