ALLEN Park residents are among those who have been left stranded without water on Thursday afternoon.
André Naudé, CEO of Kempton Park Council of the Aged, confirmed they were heading for a crisis at the retirement village because of the shortage of water.
“Due to the frail care we provide here, it is imperative to have water. We had a little water during the night but it is completely off again,” Naudé said.
Antoinette le Roux posted on Facebook that the interruption was apparently the result of a pipe that burst on the R25 close to Tembisa.
“At Allen Park Old Age Home in Allen Grove there is still no water at all! My mom lives there and (at age 79) has to carry buckets of water from the borehole tap upstairs to her flat. This is heavy on any senior citizen, especially a woman. Just wish Ekurhuleni would get their backsides in gear and restore this.
“My mom is forced not to take her daily bath and she is very particular on hygiene. The only water (besides the borehole water which she uses to flush the toilet) that she has access to, is water bought from the supermarket, and that is heavy on the finances of a pensioner,” Le Roux said.
Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche said various parts of Kempton were still without water. Kempton suburbs affected are Allen Grove, Glen Marais on Fiskaal Street and the lower parts of Aston Manor.
The water supply to Nimrod Park, Kempton CBD and Kempton ext 2 had been restored.
Terblanche confirmed that a water pipe had burst on Partridge Avenue and technicians were working on fixing the problem, which should be resolved by Friday morning.
“The reason it will take so long is because it is a four to six hour long job to repair the pipe. Over and above that, the water first has to be emptied from the pipes before repairs can begin. After that the tanks must fill up before water will be available.”

• Gavendish Glen Mall on Monument Road
• Nimrod Park on Pienaar Road
The municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused.
