Watch: Teacher caught on video kicking pupil at Tembisa school

Boitumelong has been chosen to 'twin' with Kempies

A teacher at Boitumelong High School in Tembisa faces suspestion after he was caught on camera kicking, slapping and grabbing two learners by their necks after they apparently failed to submit an assignment.

The teacher is further heard calling one learner a b***.

According to News24, the incident took place at a school chosen by MEC Panyaza Lesufi for the paperless education programme. Boitumelong was also chosen as the school to “twin” with Hoërskool Kempton Park in a pilot project of the education department to assist underperforming schools.

“It (the incident) came to the department’s attention two weeks ago, before Easter,” said Gauteng education spokesman, Phumla Sekhonyane.

The department has given the educator notice of intention to suspend. He had until  Friday to respond.

The video shows the teacher talking to two male pupils at the front of the classroom, before he proceeds to kick at one of them. He then grabs both of them by the necks and slaps one learner. Several of the other pupils in the class respond with laughter.
