EFF marches against xenophobia
Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) from ward 12 in Phomolong marched against xenophobia.
The “no xenophobia” march took place through the streets of Phomolong on Sunday.
EFF members were seen chanting songs of no xenophobia in their township.
Some of the marchers were carrying placards, with messages liken “Stop attacking our fellow brothers and sisters, Africa, we are one and say no to xenophobia” written on them.
According to the ward 12 branch chairperson, Mr Joseph Matlaila, they organised the march after realising that some foreign spaza shop owners in Phomolong were afraid of residents in the area.
“We wanted to keep them calm and alert the community to the fact that we are all Africans,” he said.
Mr Matlaila added they are not supporting any act of xenophobia in Tembisa.
“Tembisa is a nice area to be, where any foreign African could visit at any time. We are encouraging our foreign brothers and sisters to report any threats they come across in the community to the SAPS. We are here to support you,” he said.
