Electricity line explosion: parts of Kempton without power

It is still unclear when the issue would be resolved

PARTS of Kempton were left without power this morning due to an explosion at a substation in Kaalfontein.

Areas affected include Pomona, Bredell, Brentwood Park, parts of Glen Marais and parts of Birchleigh North.

Parts of Birchleigh had also been affected but power has since been restored in those areas.

Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche confirmed that a K66 electricity line at the substation had blewn up and caught fire, wiping out electricity in parts of Kempton.

“Municipal workers are on site at the moment trying  to repair the damage but it is unknown what time the power would be back,” Terblanche said.

“The problem will be re-assessed at 5pm.”

It is unclear what time the line exploded but electricity went off at about 5am in Birchleigh North. Terblanche confirmed he received messages from residents this morning regarding the issue.

Terblanche said engineers couldn’t confirm a time when the problem would be resolved.
