POMONA residents have decided to seek legal representation for the ongoing housing development saga.
During a community meeting between the residents of Pomona, Nemai Consulting and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality stakeholders held on April 18 at Laerskool Bredell, a unanimous decision was made to employ the services of a legal team.
The housing development proposal, made by the EMM, involves the construction of housing units which will cover about 12 hectares of vacant land bordered by Outeniqua and Methley roads.

The development will be at the back of an existing, upmarket town house complex, Sheffield Rock.
These residents, especially, are completely against the project.
“After our public participation process with all the relevant stakeholders, we as the residents of Pomona voted unanimously to engage the services of a legal team to protect our interests,” Terry Rubenstein, chairman of the Pomona Residents Association, explained.
“The residents were asked by their representatives, Pomona Residents Association, whether we should pursue this matter legally and everyone agreed to have a legal team come on board.”
With this in mind the association has engaged the services of “arguably, the best legal team available”.
The services of Ivan Pauw and Partners, based in Pretoria, have been recruited.

“We now need your financial support, namely R200 per month for the next 10 months in order to proceed. Provided that we all contribute, we will be able to take this case as far as it needs to go,” said Rubenstein.
