Foundation addresses toilet hygiene

South Africa singer, television presenter and actor, Mr Nkangiso Bengu, was part of a hygienic school toilet project which is currently underway in Tembisa and Ivory Park schools.

Pupils at Boitumelong and Bonwelong Secondary Schools couldn’t believe their eyes on Monday last week when they saw South Africa singer, television presenter and actor, Mr Nkangiso Bengu, during his visit to the schools.

Mr Bengu, together with members from Life For You Foundation based at Ivory Park, paid a visit to the schools to teach pupils about toilet hygiene. According to Life For You’s spokesperson, Mr Simon Molekwa, the talks are aimed at promoting healthy toilet hygiene in all Tembisa schools.

“We feel honoured and proud to start the initiative because many schools are presently prioritising a hygienic toilet environment. Pupils now get to see the importance of maintaining clean toilets,” he added.

During the visit to the schools, Life For You Foundation members and Mr Bengu cleaned all the toilets at Boitumeong and Bonwelong Secondary Schools.

Mr Molekwa said the toilet hygiene project started last year, after they realised that many schools in the area were unhygienic.

“The project will continue until the pupils adhere to clean toilets, as we believe it is their responsibility to maintain toilets and not to vandalise them. We are trying by all means to win this battle of unhygienic toilets as we go all out by inviting national celebrities to come and motivate them,” he added.

Mr Molekwa encourages school principals to ensure toilet maintenance takes place so that pupils can use clean, functioning toilets. The cleanliness, according to Mr Molekwa, is the responsibility of pupils.

The project theme for this year is ‘War against unhygienic toilets’.

The Life For You Foundation visits various primary and secondary schools in Tembisa, twice a week, for the toilet hygiene project.

Mr Bengu urged pupils to behave themselves and to dedicate their lives to education.

“Keeping your toilet clean will show how you love and respect yourself. Our salute goes to the cleaning staff members who work tirelessly to keep the toilets as clean as possible,” said Mr Molekwa.
