Local beauty is pageant finalist
Nxumalo needs your vote in the Public Choice category in the Miss SA Townships pageant
23-year-old Geraldine Nxumalo is a finalist in the Miss SA Townships, a community-based pageant aimed at empowering young women.
The Birchleigh beauty started modelling in 2008 when she was encouraged by her mother to enter a school pageant.
“I was extremely nervous as I’d never entered any pageant before, but went along with it and was crowned the queen. After that, I just fell in love with modelling,” said Nxumalo.
Nxumalo said the Miss SA Townships organisation puts an emphasis on talent and community service.
“The community-based pageant is aimed at empowering young women, and equipping them with the skills required to become great role models. Anyone can enter from ages 18 to 29, anyone with a passion for serving their community and giving back. It’s a beauty with a purpose competition,” she added.
She is currently working with the Tshepang Care Centre in the Vusumuzi Informal Settlement, which is located in Tembisa.
The non-profit organisation caters for about 150 to 250 children, who come from abused, victimised, neglected ororphaned backgrounds.
Apart from modelling, Nxumalo has a number of other interests.
She works full time, is studying ministry/theology, is a Sunday school teacher, a hair stylist and a philanthropist.
She also performs a little music.
“My dream in the next five years is to have completed my degree in theology and my diploma in Somatology. I also want to start my own hair and beauty parlour and modelling school,” said Nxumalo.
“I want to look back on all the lives I have touched and see a major difference, be it education, health or life in general. My dream is to inspire and empower young people, especially girls, to become independent, goal-driven and compassionate individuals. I want to teach them that everything is possible with God,” she said.
Nxumalo is passionate about children and also dreams of opening her own non profit organisation, looking after orphans, the homeless and underprivileged children.
She needs your vote in the Public Choice category in the Miss SA Townships pageant.
