Water problems continue to plague residents

The problem will probably be resolved at the end of August

IF your water has been trickling out of the tap, you are not the only one and the problem will continue for a few more months.

Following a complaint from a resident in Maxwell Street about having no water every morning, EXPRESS made an enquiry with Ekurhuleni Metro and DA councillor Jaco Terblanche.

Terblanche said there was a problem at the reservoir that serves the Kempton CBD, parts of Kempton Park ext two, Aston Manor and Nimrod Park.

“According to information from the water department, they will only be able to resolve the problem in the new financial year, starting in July. The department informed me they open the by-pass twice a day so all the pipes are filled up with water and that the water pressure is normal,” he explained.

He pointed out that whenever there was no water in the morning, it meant the water department had not opened the by-pass at the reservoir.

“When the by-pass is opened, homes will start receiving water within 15 minutes.”

Terblanche was unsure about the exact date, but added the problem would probably be fixed at the end of August as it would take four to six weeks for repairs to be completed.

EXPRESS is still awaiting comment from the metro.
