DA walks out of council meeting over ‘apartheid’

The opposition party was not happy about a statement an ANC councillor made

THE DA walked out of the monthly council meeting on Thursday morning after an ANC councillor refused to retract a statement he made.

The councillor had accused the DA of taking people back to the apartheid days.

DA councillor André du Plessis requested the councillor to retract his statement, which he refused to do. The opposition party then walked out of the meeting.

DA caucus leader, Fortune Mahano, stood up first and while he packed his things, the rest of the party members followed.

Angela Barnes, media officer for the DA, said they would release a statement (if necessary) as soon as they had a discussion about the incident.
