Nearly 9 000 homes will get lights this financial year

A total of 3 581 subsidised homes have already been electrified in John Dube Village and Essellen Park

THE metro aims to install power connections at nearly 9 000 stands at an estimated cost of R239 million this financial year.

As part of this project, construction is currently underway in Esselen Park ext 3. The project will see 809 new connections at a cost of R22 million.

Other areas to benefit from the project are Palm Ridge ext 9 (2 600 connections at R61 million), Eden Park West ext 1 (860 connections at R25 million), Chief Albert Luthuli ext 6B (1 119 connections at R27 million), Villa Liza ext 2 (487 connections at R25 million), Villa Liza ext 3 (614 connections at R25 million), Thinasonke ext 4 (514 connections at R14 million) and Langaville ext 10 (1 623 connections at R40 million).

A total of 3 581 subsidised homes have already been electrified in John Dube Village and Essellen Park.

The MMC for Water and Sanitation, Clr Doctor Xhakaza, who conducted the official electrification ceremony at Chief Albert Luthuli Park, pleaded with the community to assist in fighting vandalism, cable theft and illegal connections.

“In order for the municipality to continue delivering services to its residents, we need to work together in protecting municipal infrastructure. This starts by reporting any form of suspicious behaviour through the call centre,” said Xakaza.
