The Ekurhuleni Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Water and Sanitation, Clr Doctor Xhakza, visited Arebaokeng, Tshidisanang and the Tembisa Integrated Centre Home Based Care and Crèche in Tembisa on July 17.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, said as a contribution to the 67 Minutes for Mandela campaign, the MMC and Ekurhuleni officials attended to leaking taps and pipes, and also painted toilets, at these centres.
“Ideally, the municipality is responsible for fixing burst mainlines and leaking water meters outside of residents’ homes but because today is Mandela Day, we decided to take service delivery a little step further,” said MMC Xhakaza.
“Amidst the painting and fixing of leakages, we also donated blankets, food parcels and toiletries to the three centres,” said the MMC.
“In not forgetting about the elderly on Mandela Day, the team also took a detour to the Tembisa Old Age Home to send a message of love and to senior citizens that they are not forgotten,” said Mr Gadebe.
The EMM’s executive mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, led a drive to plant 67 trees in Winnie Mandela and helped clean up the Kaalspruit River in Tembisa.
