Man arrested for rape, murder

"The deceased was allegedly looking for his girlfriend and when he could not find her, he told the victim that she would be his girlfriend for the night."

A 25-year-old man was murdered by his friend, after he refused to be involved in the repeated gang rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The suspect (22) was arrested for the rape and murder committed at Oakmoor Extension 9.

“The teenage girl said she was in the company of her friends when they went to a party at Teanong Section,” said Constable Patricia Mgijima.

According to the young girl, the deceased together with the suspect, came to where the rape victim was sitting.

“The deceased was allegedly looking for his girlfriend and when he could not find her, he told the victim that she would be his girlfriend for the night,” said Constable Mgijima.

“The deceased grabbed the victim and together with the suspect, took her to Oakmoor Extension 9. When they arrived at the house, they overpowered her. The victim was gang raped by the two men,” she said.

Const Mgijima said the deceased decided to rape the girl again but his friend told him he could not.

According to Const Mgijima, a fight ensued between the two men.

“The suspect grabbed a sharp object and stabbed his friend in the lower body,” she said.

The girl managed to escape the house during the confrontation between the two men.

“The suspect summoned the help of another friend. They took the injured friend to his house at Phumasilwe Freedom Square, next to Moriting Section.

Const Mgijima said a community member informed the police about the murder.

“The police went to the scene and found blood stains in the shack. The suspect was traced and arrested for murder,” said Const Mgijima.

“It was later discovered that the suspect and the deceased were involved in the gang rape of the teenaged girl. The suspect was detained at the Tembisa Police Station. He was charged with rape and murder,” she said.
