UPDATE: Pedestrian opens fire at Metro Cops

JMPD officers shot and wounded.

The Tembisan can confirm that two officers from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) were wounded this evening when a man opened fire at them in Ivory Park.

The officers, both male, were controlling traffic at the corner of Republic and Asher Fischer roads when the suspect, on foot, shot at them.

On scene information suggests that about 20 cartridges were found on scene.

“Unconfirmed reports also suggest that the firearm used by the suspect, who is still at large, was found not far from the scene,” said Jantji Ngwenyama, Tembisan’s journalist at the scene.

Although initial reports indicated that the shooting took place at Busy Corner, updated information has since clarified that the shooting was, in fact metres away from the chill spot.

The officers have since been transported to hospital.

Police are investigating and members of the community with information on the suspect’s whereabouts are requested to contact the police.
