THE driver of a cigarette delivery van was locked in the back of his vehicle after a heist in broad daylight at a service station in Van Riebeeck Park on Wednesday morning.
However, the three hijackers’ plans were foiled when they were caught off-loading their loot only blocks away from the crime scene.
Braam Basson, PHS COPS reaction officer, said he received a message about the incident and caught the three suspects in the act, loading the cigarette boxes into their getaway Audi on Swartberg Street.
When the men saw them, they jumped into the silver Audi A4 and sped off with the cigarettes they had already loaded into their car.
When PHS COPS looked in the back of the 2.0 Cadi TDI, they found the tied up driver.
The delivery man was unharmed.
