Casual Day: what should I wear?

The project is managed by the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA

MILLIONS of South Africans are getting creative about planning their Casual Day outfits.

Apart from the obligatory sticker, they are preparing to celebrate spring.

Celebrities who have already bought their stickers include songstress and humanitarian Yvonne Chaka Chaka, well-known personality DJ Black Coffee, Paralympic athlete Samkelo Radebe and TV presenter Lezanne Naidoo.

The theme is Spring into Action, so take your inspiration from the birds and the bees, from new leaves and blossoms on the trees, and from nature all around. You can wear floral or animal prints, Hawaiian shirts with chinos, as long as you use a lot of colour.

Put flowers in your hair, decorate a hat with paper flowers or just wear the Casual Day official golf shirt that you can buy from one of your local organisations.

But, most importantly, get your sticker, which is your “licence” to participate on Friday, September 4. Your R10 donation will go towards providing education, job creation, transport, assistive devices and emotional support to persons with disabilities through the 500 organisations that participate.

The project is managed by the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA (NCPPDSA).

Says Therina Wentzel, national director of NCPPDSA, “We are ecstatic about the response from South Africans to the project. With the world economy in turmoil and a decline in funding for NGOs from corporations and government, Casual Day is going from strength to strength, raising R28-million in 2014. Casual Day is a lifeline for many organisations of persons with disabilities.”

Get your stickers from your local participating organisation or Edgars, Jet, JetMart, Boardmans, CNA, Red Square and Legit, Absa outlets, Game and DionWired stores, and Shoprite and Checkers stores.
