A grandmother with her grandchildren with her in the car narrowly escaped being hijacked in Esther Park on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the children’s mother, her mother-in-law had fetched the children from school. As they stopped in the driveway of her mother-in-law’s Vlierboom Street home, two men stopped behind them.
They were driving a black hatchback Renault Sandero. One man jumped out and put a gun against the grandmother’s head.
They took her engagement ring and car keys. They would have taken the car too but could not get the door open.
The children’s mother told Express the men told her mother-in-law they would be back before they sped off.
The family warns residents to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The one man wore a navy blue floppy farm hat and was unshaven.
