The suspected murderer of 61-year-old Rose Gaynor Krause handed himself over to Norkem Park SAPS on Monday evening last week and appeared in court the following morning.
Krause was found dead in her Norkem Park home on Koba Street on July 31.
Acting Norkem Park SAPS spokesman W/O Mahlodi Langa, said the suspect killed the woman by hitting her over the head with a hammer.
“She suffered internal bleeding and that is why there were no visible injuries when she was found,” he explained.
Evidence led detectives investigating the crime to the suspect’s home in Winnie Mandela, Tembisa, on Sunday evening, where they found his family. He was not home.
The following day he handed himself over to police.
It was not his first offence and other crimes he is accused of include house robbery and theft.
According to Langa, the man said he did not know what had come over him when he committed the crimes but blamed the devil and some form of demonic force for the incidents.
“According to the suspect, in this particular case, there was no intent to murder the woman or steal anything from the house, he says he doesn’t know what came over him,” Langa further added.
Krause was found with a hammer and revolver on the ground beside her body and a pistol on top of her.
There was blood on the bed but no sign of forced entry into the house and nothing was stolen.
Police found the house filled with water.
Langa said it seemed that the suspect and Krause knew each other and that the man had been employed as a gardener on the property some time ago.
The case was postponed and the suspect remains in custody.
