A 25-year-old woman was sentenced on July 28 for neglecting her children.
Constable Patricia Mgijima said the mother of two was given a 12 month sentence for child neglect.
The landlord allegedly heard the children crying one night and when she knocked on the door, there was no answer.
“She called the police and complained about the children who were neglected for the whole night,” said Const Mgijima.
While the landlord was talking to the police, the woman arrived.
The woman said her children were staying at a place of safety in Glen Austin and that the children only came to visit the accused on that weekend.
“A case of child neglect was opened with the Ivory Park SAPS. The suspect was arrested and detained. She appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of child neglect,” said Const Mgijima.
“She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.”
The Tembisa SAPS station commander, Brigadier Johan Jacobs, thanked the investigating officer Constable Mahlatse Mabokela for handling the case.
