KEMPTON police are searching for a man wanted for questioning following the theft of a Kia bakkie battery.
The battery was stolen from a car dealership business on Firefly Street in Rhodesfield.
According to Kempton SAPS spokesperson Capt Jethro Mtshali, the man appears on CCTV footage obtained by the owner of the business.
The footage shows that the man wanted was on the premises of the business the day the battery was stolen, which is estimated to be sometime during the night between August 18 and August 19.
“As a result, Kempton Park detectives are kindly requesting the community for their assistance in locating the alleged suspect wanted for questioning,” Mtshali said.
The owner had parked his Kia Bakkie on the premises on August 18 and received a phone call from officers on duty the next day to inform him that a car battery had been stolen.
Upon viewing the CCTV cameras, the man was seen on the footage.
“Police have now observed these kinds of incidents increasing at an alarming rate and request anyone with information to contact us to help root out this scourge, which is occurring especially at malls and car dealership properties. Criminals mostly target bakkies and trucks.”
