Primary school learners escape unharmed in fatal P91 crash

An elderly man, who has been identified as Marmanet Retirement Village resident Ildeberto Henriques, tragically lost his life in the accident

THIRTEEN Mooifontein Primary school kids escaped unharmed after a fatal crash on the P91 on Wednesday last week, which left an elderly man dead.

The crash happened at the busy intersection of the P91 and Kwartel Road in Van Riebeeck Park, at about 1.50pm.

Norkem Police spokesperson, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, confirmed that a case of culpable homicide is now being investigated since the accident, in which a doctor is alleged to have been driving one of the cars involved in the accident.

Three cars were involved in the crash, a white Toyota Yaris, which was driven by the deceased, a white Toyota Venture, which was transporting the learners, as well as a dark grey/black Chevrolet Captiva, which is thought to belong to the doctor.

According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, the Venture was transporting 13 Mooifontein Primary School children when the crash happened.

The learners, most of whom live in Tembisa and Birch Acres, were on their way home from school.

In the meanwhile, the elderly man who lost his life in the accident has been identified as 79-year-old Marmanet Retirement Village resident, Ildeberto Lopes Henriques.
