A 37-year-old man was arrested in Ivory Park on September 4 after a police chase ensued following a hijacking next to the School of Rail on the P91.
Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, said the suspect and three accomplices hijacked a Ford Ranger at the traffic lights in Kaalfontein.
The suspect’s getaway vehicle was exactly the same make and colour as the vehicle they were hijacking.

“They put on a blue light, pulled the driver off the road and pointed a firearm at him. One suspect drove the vehicle they had hijacked and the other three drove away in their getaway car,” explained Molokomme.
“A look-out was given and police spotted the getaway vehicle on Republic Road in Ivory Park. They chased the suspects to a dead-end in Kaalfontein ext 4,” he further explained.
The three suspects abandoned the vehicle and made a run for it on foot in different directions. Police arrested one of the suspects, while the other two managed to run away.
Items recovered included two sports bags with three firearms, a R5 rifle with 25 rounds of ammunition, a firearm with 25 live rounds of ammunition and a Z88 pistol with 12 rounds, as well as a six channel jamming devices, two police reflector jackets, gloves and cables.
“The suspect has two cases pending, one for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Silverton and a Garsfontein case for hijacking,” added Molokomme.
The hijacked vehicle has not yet been recovered.
