A smash-and-grab robber was no match for community members when they managed to chase him down and hand him over to the police.
According to Kempton police spokesman Capt Jethro Mtshali, the suspect was caught by members of the community near the R25 and R21 on-ramp intersection in Kempton.
The incident happened at about 6pm on September 11.

“It is alleged that a female victim was driving her Corsa vehicle when she pulled up at the intersection. While waiting for the robot to turn green, she heard the sound of a smashing window,” Mtshali said.
The suspect reached into her car, grabbed her handbag and cellphone, and ran away.
“The victim saw a police vehicle and informed them of the incident; however the members of the community who allegedly witnessed the incident managed to get hold of the suspect and handed him over to the police,” added Mtshali.
The 32-year-old suspect will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on robbery charges.
The police thank the community for their assistance and again warn motorists to always keep their valuable items out of sight as these attract potential smash-and-grabbers.
