The Makhulong stadium manager wants to appeal to the community to have a hand in looking after the facility.
Mr Raynard Shai, the stadium manager, said the facility has been targeted by criminals during August.
“This is a 2010 legacy we must all protect,” he said.
He said R60 000 worth of damage has been caused by thieves when they broke into the stadium last month.
Mr Shai said the criminals jumped over the wall barricading the sporting facility and he suspected the criminals knew the stadium had only one security guard on duty on the night of the break in.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said a case of theft has been opened since the incident took place.
“We have also reported the matter to the municipality. We need to raise these walls. The municipality is waiting to allocate budget for the stadium,” he said.
“The criminals entered through the ceiling and into the public toilets. They stole taps, electric cables for copper and the whole circuit breaker system,” said Mr Shai.
He was surprised because the community does not raise alarm when they witness vandalism taking place.
Mr Shai said the stadium belongs to the community but the community vandalises the stadium and throws rubbish and dead dogs into the stadium.
“It’s our children. Parents must question stolen goods and report crime,” he said.
