The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced Jerry Mbele to life imprisonment for the rape of a boy.
Mbele was found guilty for a July 2014 rape on Tuesday last week.
The Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, said it was further endorsed that his name be entered in the register for sexual offenders.
“The head for family violence, child protection and sexual offences thanked Sergeant Ramaesela Seloane for the good work she has done,” he said.
Capt Ralidzivha said the accused approached three boys who were playing soccer in Isithama Section.
“He told them he was running short of four soccer players at his club. He told the young boys that he wanted them to join in.
“He went with them until they reached Madelakufa, where they found other boys playing soccer. He instructed another boy to stay behind and watch the soccer. He proceeded with the other two boys until they reached Birchleign North. He told the other young boy to proceed to a tree where he will find bicycles that they would use for exercise.
“He stayed behind with the victim. He started to undress him. The boy tried to run away but he grabbed him, overpowered him and raped him,” said Capt Ralidzivha.
He added while he was raping the boy, he saw the police coming towards them.
“He told the boy to stand up and run away with him. The police chased him and arrested him,” he said.
