Train victim identified as much-loved gogo

"She was a bubbly and loved person."

The woman who was struck by a train and killed has been identified as Ms Maria Mantoa Motaung.

The 53-year-old Ms Motaung, from Tlamatlama Section in Tembisa, was laid to rest at the Mooifontein Cemetery on Saturday last week.

Her daughter, Ms Elizabeth Kekana, said her mother was returning home from their relatives in Endulweni Section when she was struck and killed by the train.

“She was a bubbly and loved person,” said Ms Kekana.

Ms Kekana said her mother loved making jokes and called everyone on the street “screpie”.

The incident occurred between Ibazelo and Tsenelong sections recently.

The Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, said they asked residents to be careful when crossing the railway line.

“The place where the deceased was struck is a danger to the community. Many people have died while crossing the railway line,” said Capt Ralidzivha.

Ms Maria Motaung is survived by two children and four grandchildren.
