
WITH the release of the annual crime stats on Tuesday, it seems Kemptonians are not much better off as far as a drop in serious crimes is concerned.
The statistics are for April 2014 to March 2015.
One of the crimes most residents fear, namely house robberies, have increased in all three precincts, namely Kempton Park SAPS, Norkem Park SAPS and Sebenza SAPS.
Norkem recorded 101 cases (up 6.2%), Kempton 113 (up 34.5%) and Sebenza 35 (up 20.7%).
House burglaries are also still very high with Norkem Park SAPS precinct reporting 1 072 cases (up 5.3%). Kempton Park went down 8.1% (715 cases) and Sebenza dropped 18.2% (184 cases).
Car hijackings are still a great concern with all the police stations recording increases – Norkem 62 more cases, Kempton 79 more cases and Sebenza 30 more incidents.
Thirty-nine murders were recorded: Norkem 11 (0%), Kempton 15 (-6.3%) and Sebenza 3 (+50%).
