SOUTH Africa must be the safest place to own a car. Why?
Nobody seems to be stealing cars these days, at least not between April 2014 and March 2015. This is according to the annual crime statistics released by the police on Tuesday.
Kempton Express checked the stats for Kempton Park, Norkem Park and Sebenza police stations: not a single car was stolen!
For the previous period (April 2013 to March 2014) Kempton recorded 545 thefts, Norkem 240 and Sebenza 83.
We then randomly checked other police stations, which reflected the same – cars are not stolen anymore.
Beeld reported this morning about the “lack of car theft” in Limpopo. Lt. Col. Ronél Otto, police spokesman in Limpopo, told Beeld it could be that the vehicles were hijacked and not stolen, and were therefore recorded under another section (hijackings).
Express have approached Kempton Park SAPS for comment and will publish it as soon as we receive it.
