IN enhancing its status as the business tourism destination of choice, the City of Ekurhuleni is gearing up to host the National Productivity Awards on Thursday night.
The awards are a Productivity SA initiative and are aimed at promoting productivity within the country’s industry, to raise awareness about the potential role of productivity in growing and developing our economy and to increase South Africa ‘s competitiveness.
Over 700 delegates are expected to attend the awards at Emperor’s Palace under the theme “A Year of Labour”.
Over 30 Ekurhuleni-based small to medium enterprises who are in the tourism sector will benefit from the metro’s partnership with Productivity SA.
“The City’s Economic Development Department shares the vision of improving productivity and competitiveness amongst Ekurhuleni-based tourism SMMEs and have identified a skills gap within the tourism sector that needs to be filled,” said MMC for Economic Development, Thumbu Mahlangu.
“Thus our participation in these awards will see tourism SMMEs being taken through an extensive three-month long capacity building, business performance improvement and aftercare workshop.
Organisations that have made strides in improving productivity will be awarded in one of five categories, namely the Co-Operatives Sector, Public Sector, Emerging Businesses and the Corporate Sector.
The awards will begin at 6.30pm for 7pm, where Ekurhuleni’s mayor Mondli Gungubele will present a welcome address.
