Ivory Park SAPS appealed to people who are selling their cars on the streets to be vigilant and beware of con-artists.
Warrant Officer Meldah Sekgobela, Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, said a man was selling his car in Kaalfontein Extension 7 when a woman approached him with an offer.
“The car is a Renault Megane with registration number VDN 799 GP. The woman told the seller his car was worth about R60 000.
“She took out her cell phone and pretended to transfer the money to his bank account. After few minutes the seller received a message stating R60 000 had been transferred to his account.
“The seller gave the woman the car keys and car papers and she drove off. The man went to the bank and has since alleged no money had been transferred to his account. The woman was nowhere to be found,” she said.
