Car crashes into Vlei Street Dam – driver missing

A speeding driver who crashed through a gate into the Vlei Street Dam on Thursday evening last week, disappeared, leaving the vehicle behind.

The accident happened on the Adria Street side of the dam in Glen Marais between 10pm and 11pm.

A nearby resident passed the dam on Friday morning while the bakkie, apparently belonging to a company, was retrieved from the water and loaded onto a flatbed. The smashed gate was repaired the same day.

According to this resident, she was told the driver was seen by someone staggering out of the water and getting into a white car, which drove off with him.
