Residents urged to attend land claim meeting

The meeting will be addressed by officials from the commission on restitution of rights, known as the Land Claims Commission.

The Tembisa Land Claims Forum is inviting community members to its special meeting, which will be held at Endulweni Primary School on October 10.

The meeting will start at 9am.

The Tembisa Land Claims Forum‘s chairman, Mr Tim Mabena, said the meeting will be addressed by officials from the commission on restitution of rights, known as the Land Claims Commission.

“Important issue will be addressed on the day. It is about the status of the Irene claim which was lodged before December 31, 1998. It is still active and the commission want to finalise the claim. Irene land claimants are urged to attend so that they can be informed about the next stage of their claim, which is claimant verification. This decides the number of claimants to be compensated,” he said.

Mr Mabena said it is also important that people who were uprooted from the Alexandra township attend the meeting as there is confusion regarding the status of lodgers and landlords.
