Van Riebeeck shoot-out after deal gone wrong caught on CCTV

The getaway car was found abandoned the next day

A young man who tried to buy a car through OLX after saving for years, was involved in a shoot-out in Van Riebeeck Park which was caught on CCTV.

The incident happened on September 28 on Blignaut Street.

The seller of the car arranged to pick up the young buyer to take him to Randburg to view the car, as the latter had no transport.

Being scared it could be scam, he took his own firearm with him.

After picking up the potential buyer, the men drove into Blignaut Street, which is a cul-de-sac, pretending it was a shortcut to Randburg through Tembisa.

The “sellers” asked whether he had the money, upon which he said yes. In the cul-de-sac they grabbed his money, forced him out of the car, fired a warning shot in his direction and drove off. He was slightly wounded in the leg.

The young man opened fire on them, apparently wounding some of the men. However, they got away with the money. ADT found their car the next day, abandoned, with blood inside.

Most of the incident was captured on CCTV footage.
