Two men, aged 30 and 39, were arrested on Friday, October 3, in Van Riebeek Park for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
“It is alleged that at 4.30am the owner of a house on Rustig Avenue heard footsteps while sleeping. When the suspects realised that somebody had heard them, they fled the scene on foot,” explained Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme.
Molokomme said COPS Security was called to the scene and managed to arrest the two suspects on the P91 in possession of a Magnum revolver with three rounds of live ammunition and some empty cartridges.
The two appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Thirteen other arrests were made over the weekend of October 3 to 5.
The different arrests included seven for assault, three for shoplifting, two for driving under the influence of liquor and one for theft.
