Services at Tembisa Hospital are now more expensive

Only certain patients are exempt from paying

TEMBISA Hospital has introduced new patient tariffs which came into effect on September 1.

These patients are exempt from paying: children nought to five years, pregnant women (must provide proof of pregnancy), pensioners (must produce ID card, SASSA card and SASSA slip) and physically disabled and mental patients.

People who earn up to R36 000 a year pay R25 per visit to the outpatients department and R40 for casualty/accidents and emergency.

The new in-patient admission fee per 30 days is R75; ICU admission per 30 days is R75 and the high care admission per 30 days is R75.

People who earn from R36 001 to R72 000 a year have to pay R75 per visit to the outpatients department and R195 for casualty/accidents and emergency. The in-patient admission fees are R75 a day, R80 a day for high care and R165 a day for ICU.

People who earn above R72 000 a year pay R119 at the outpatients department and R475 for casualty/accidents and emergency.

In-patient admission is R1 084 a day, high care is R1 196 a day and ICU is R2 573 a day.

Full-paying patients (private patients) pay R183 a visit to the outpatient department, R497 for casualty/accidents and emergency. The in-patient admission fee is R1 681 a day.

These tariffs were introduced by the Gauteng Department of Health.
