PETER Greaves, renowned adventurer, globetrotter and twitcher, returns to Modderfontein as the guest speaker at the Modderfontein Conservation Society’s evening meeting on October 15 at 7.30pm at the town hall.
Greaves will tell of his adventures in an illustrated talk entitled ‘Fabulous Peru’. He has plenty to talk about as Peru has a bird list of almost 1 800 and, added to that are 1 400 bird species in Bolivia, which he also visited.

His talk covers all the major habitats of Peru, including coastal desert and prolific offshore islands, the Amazon basin rain forest, Andes eastern slope cloud forest and the high Andes at over 4 000m, including Machu Picchu.
“In Bolivia the only missing habitats are coastal and offshore but the scenery of the high Andes and especially the altiplano above 3 800m with walks at up to 4 80m make up for the gap,” said Greaves. “Birds include the famous hoatzin, sungrebe, Andean cock-of-the-rock, macaws, parakeets and parrots.”
The entrance fee is R30 per person.
