EKURHULENI Metropolitan Municipality appeals to residents and businesses in parts of Benoni and Germiston to utilise water sparingly.
This follows an increase in the water usage caused by the heat wave that has been sweeping through the province over the past week.
Consumers in high lying areas may have noticed a drop in their water pressure, especially during peak hours when the demand for water is high.
“In an effort to cool down, we have found that consumers utilise more water to fill up swimming pools and conduct activities like irrigating their gardens and crops,” says Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.
“This has led to the levels in the reservoirs feeding these areas dropping and thus putting strain on the supply to high lying areas.”
Areas that are currently affected by low water pressure include Brentwood Park, Bredell, Benoni Agricultural Holdings, Benoni CBD as well as Lakefield. In Germiston, Dinwiddie, Albermarle, Wadeville and Elspark are affected.
Gadebe continues to advise that residents opt for other ways of keeping cool like drinking cool water, staying indoors, utilising fans and wearing loose-fitting clothing.
