Xolani Promise Godana was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape on September 29.
The 22-year-old was found guilty of raping a six-year-old girl at Winnie Mandela in October last year.
Constable Patricia Mgijima said Godana lured the child to his room which is not far from where she stayed.
“The child was crying and Godana told people the child was crying for her mother. He later ran away from the scene. The police traced him and his father handed him to SAPS the following day,” said Const Mgijima.
Tembisa Police Station Commander Brigadier Johan Jacobs commended Sergeant Kolobe Amia Kwenaite for making sure the investigations resulted in a conviction.
