DA PR councillor, Clr Allan Sauls, told Tembisan Ekurhuleni Metro has made a payment of more than R1,1-billion to secure the development of a substation for Phomolong.
“Phomolong community receives electricity from City Power, however, when the grid is under pressure the electricity supply in the area is simply cut off,” Clr Sauls said.
He said the original land identified for the substation was deemed too costly and the position of the substation had to be moved.
“The substation will now be developed on Erf371 next to the OR Tambo Primary School – land which was sold to the Department of Education subjected to the servitude being reserved for the development of the Phomolong substation.
“The substation should be completed by the end of 2016,” said Clr Sauls.
