Welfare groups pleads for help
Ms Seema said she started the centre after she had conducted door-to-door visits around Winnie Mandela during her time volunteering as a social worker.
One of Tembisa’s non-profit organisations, Batho Pele which is based in Winnie Mandela Zone 4, is pleading for donations.
The founder of the organisation, Ms Mpho Seema, said the group aims to provide community services which are sustainable by empowering poor families and alleviating poverty.
The Batho Pele organisation was formed in 2010.
Ms Seema said she started the centre after she had conducted door-to-door visits around Winnie Mandela during her time volunteering as a social worker.
“I discovered there were so many families faced with poverty and most of them suffer from chronic diseases. I started with 35 families and now cater for over 100. We are also feeding orphanages and vulnerable and needy children,” she said.
“In spite of the successes chalked so far, the centre is battling with space to provide descent shelter for the children. We are still in need of office equipment and especially food for the poor families,” she said.
Ms Seema said they are appealing for any donations that could help the centre.
