Getting to grips with some unique #KasiRides

Many young people in Tembisa believe that a man's car is his palace.

Many young people in Tembisa believe that a man’s car is his palace.

A car is as important as property for any young man in a township.

The Tembisan recently spotted a car that is turning heads when it drives by. 22-yearold Koketso Rammutla owns the Jetta 3.

The Tembisan spoke to the young man about his choice of car.

Tembisan: Tell us about this car.

Koketso: This is my first car. It’s a VW Jetta 3 CLX 1996 model.

Tembisan: Did you do any modifications to the car?

Koketso: The CLX has a 1.8 original engine. I have installed a VW Jetta CLI 2.0 litre engine. I have re-done the interior specifications and installed LED stripes inside the car. Red leather seats that match with the mag wheels. I still need to install a powerful sound system and sun-roof.

Tembisan: How long have you had the car?

Koketso I’ve had this car for six years already.

Tembisan: Why this car instead of another make?

Koketso: My father chose the car for me and that’s the reason why I love the car. He said it was a good car for young people.

Tembisan: Some people are scared of owning VW cars, citing mechanical challenges. Do you have any problems with the car?

Koketso: This is not a bad car at all. Just service the car, be good to it and it will be good to you.

Tembisan: What is the longest distance you have driven in your car?

Koketso: I have been to Limpopo, Gamatlala. This car never disappoints.

Tembisan: Do people envy you or do they approach you to have a look at the car?

Koketso: Almost every day, it turns heads.

Tembisan: People don’t want to put accessories on their cars in fear of theft. Advice?

Koketso: My mag wheels were stolen before. I bought another set because I love the car. If you love something that makes you happy, take your time and build it. Be passionate.

Tembisan: What is your next car?

Koketso: A VW Caravelle.

Tembisan: What about the turn around chair?

Koketso: People already loved the car but I wanted something to make my car unique, so I chose a turning chair.

Tembisan: The color combination, why did you choose red and white?

Koketso: Most cars are white, it’s a standard color. I chose red for the seats because red is my favorite color.

Tembisan: The sticker on your car, www.kdog@rgy.gp, does it have any meaning or is it only there to enhance the car’s looks?

Koketso: Kdog is my nickname and rgy comes from my car’s registration number.

Tembisan: Are you planning to sell the car at some point?

Koketso: No! I love the car. I want my child to inherit it.
